Gut Health, Healing Your Gut and Common Gut Disruptors (Featured on The Hope Wellness Podcast - Ep3)

How many of you have struggled with gut issues? I think it's safe to say most of us, on some level, want to better our gut health, relieve uncomfortable bloating or other weird digestion issues, and learn about what foods are going to promote healthy digestion.


For me, I was lucky enough to never really struggle much with gut health related issues for most of my life, but let me tell you, the combination of prolonged years of dieting, chronic stress, over exercising and always being distracted or rushing while you're trying to eat, has personally led me down some deep dark holes when it comes to my digestive health. And to be honest I see this A LOT with the women I work with...


Picture this: You wake up, immediately hop onto your phone to check your emails, your social medias, you scroll for a bit, check your texts and then finally get out of bed. So right off the bat you've not only stressed your mind out by mindlessly scrolling and comparing your life to everything you see on social media (spoiler alert, it's fake news), but you've also started your day with that glorious and hormone disrupting fake phone light FIRST THING! WHEW!

Then, you're guzzling your coffee, stressing out about the emails you just opened up before you've even started to be present in your own life, you're distracted, rushing, either skipping breakfast or shoving something down before you race out of the house, we're off to a *GREAT* start aren't we?... Nope...


Then we rush through our day, we barely eat or we eat distracted, we stress about everything going, we haven't even taken a breather for ourselves, we're speaking poorly about ourselves and we're spending most of our time indoors, sitting, infront of a computer (this part won't apply to everyone, but you get my point). Then you hurry up and get home, so you can hurry up and eat dinner, so you can hurry up and watch tv, so you can hurry up and scroll more on your phone before bed, so you can hurry up and do it all again tomorrow?


Catch my drift?


All this stress, the rushing, the mindless eating OR the barely eating at all, is ALL CONTRIBUTING TO YOUR GUT HEALTH ISSUES. Trust me, it's likely not the gluten, it's definitely not the fruit, and it's not because you 'need more fibre'. What you actually need? Is to regulate your nervous system, eat more mindfully, slow down more often, manage stress, stop force feeding yourself handfuls of raw veggies at every meal (Which is just too hard for you to digest in the first place), and to stop undereating (because news flash: You need food to digest food...)


The gut health topic is a big buzz word these days, so I wanted to bring Madisen onto the podcast, aka the Gut Goddess to chat about a lot of the myths in the gut health space, and provide you with some quality truths when it comes to healing the gut. I bet a lot of the things we unpack will surprise you!


Trust me when I say: You don't need to follow some insanely extreme and complicated protocol, usually the less you do and the simpler you keep it is going to be your best bet at healing and calming your digestive concerns.

Take it from me: As someone who has struggled with years of unknown bloat, digestive issues, parasites and different bacterias - I KNOW better than anyone that the most simple protocols work.


When it comes to gut health, we've often been told to restrict, cut out foods or spend a ton of money on pills and supplements to relieve certain symptoms, and yet we often end up digging an even deeper hole. Because the problem with this advice, is that we're often just COVERING UP symptoms, and we're never actually addressing the root cause (which for many of us is a chronic stress issue). What if instead of just eliminating things from our lives, and going to crazy extremes that are not realistic, we got to the root cause of what actually might be causing the gut distress in the first place, AND we kept it simple?


Tip: Usually overcomplicating things and stressing about it, is only making it worse - when we focus on simplicity, lowering stress and nailing the basics, healing becomes more flow!
